When Preston and Keith were teenagers, they made a pact if they were still single when they hit thirty, they'd marry each other.

Gay marriage wasn't legal then but, what the hey, they never really thought they'd have to go through with it. They were young and carefree (and drunk) when they made that promise. They figured they’d have plenty of time to meet Mr. or Mrs. Right.

Fast forward twenty-odd years, where they're both nearing forty, gay marriage has been legal for a few years, and they're both single.

The time for the wedding pact has come.

It doesn't matter that Preston is gay and Keith is straight. They're so close past lovers have wondered about them. They'll marry, get all the good tax benefits, and have someone to come home to.

As for sex... well, one can't win all battles. If anything, their differences is a plus. After his last lover, Preston is a bit shy about being with anyone. Once he and Keith marry, they’ll have their version of happily ever after, secure in the knowledge that nothing has to change.

When things begin to change, Preston is worried. Not only does he have to face his own past, if he talks to Keith about it, he might lose him.

I loved this story. It's wonderfully quirky, sweet, and at the same time gives a realistic glimpse into dealing with a sexual trauma.

Ignore the reviewers who said there was no plot (sure there is — it's about falling in love and recognizing that and overcoming trauma) or couldn't believe that a friend since middle school wouldn't know about *that* (did they mean the trauma? It's very common not to talk about that sort of thing); this story is well worth the read.

I will caution, though, it has quite a few typos. Nothing major, but if those bug you, you may have trouble with this one. Personally, I feel like it's worth it.

The Wedding Pact The Pact Book 1 edition by Faye Larson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Snappy banter and wit enliven this friends-to-lovers romance. Only slightly marred by typographical errors (Mindsweeper for Minesweeper, and so on.) Lots of fun; will read this author again!
This is a short friends to lovers story, sweet with a tinge of sadness. To me, it had the atmosphere, the cadence of a play. The ending isn't exactly a cliffhanger but the reader is left to assume the HEA and hope that the jerk ex gets his comeuppance.
The story line brings up some interesting almost comments on BDSM which are never developed. There's a sense of what happened and the pain and loss without becoming graphic. Some might want more, but what is here should be OK for most. Decent character development for the length of the story, and the promise for a HEA.
Keith and Preston had made the pact back in high school as one of those stupid things kids do but neither of them really thought it would come to pass that they would both still be single at 40. The fact that Keith is straight and Preston gay is not an issue. The whole point is tax write-offs and platonic companionship. Someone to make dinner if Keith is running late (or at least order the delivery if Preston is super involved in his writing that day). Someone to ask how the other's day was. Stuff like that. Keith's last break-up confirmed that his work is just too demanding and Preston's last break-up left him feeling shy and vulnerable about getting close to anyone ever again so it seems like a perfect situation...until that first kiss.

A fairly typical romance with Preston's ex being an interesting twist thrown in. On the whole, sweetly romantic with lots of humor and with more depth to Preston than I anticipated (although Keith is pretty much just perfect boyfriend and nothing else). Usual disclaimer, I know the author and was given a copy of the story with no expectations.
Was hesitant to buy, price/pages dilemma as always, but the one reviewer convinced me to try.
And I fully agree that this story deserves 20 more chapters.
No regrets but I feel I was left swinging in the wind. I don't want to use my own imagination.
More please.
I really liked this! It was sweet and funny and easy to get into the story. The only "complaint" I have is that I want to read more! I want to know what happens next! If there is a sequel I'd buy it. )
The book contained 1220 locations on my kindle. The book was about 2 best friends, Preston and Keith. Keith was a straight tech, with his own company. Preston was a gay writer, on a very limited budget. Keith and Preston had a wedding pact, if neither of them were married to other people by the time, they were 30, they would marry each other. The book contained a few kisses. The characters, what we knew of them were ok. Keith was sweet, patient, generous, caring and protective. Preston was insecure about his past This book was so tame, no excitement, no heat, no nothing. The book is also really rushed, so we went from friends, to marriage, to I love you, the end.
